James Webb-First Images of the powerful Telescope

James Webb – The World’s first powerful and most significant space telescope JSWT was launched in December 2021. The first colour images from James Webb were released to the public by NASA through a press conference on July 11th 2022 and all the images were officially released on July 12th 2022.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has sent the sharpest and finest infrared image of the distant universe to date from about 1 million miles away from Earth. These images are real and they look incredible. Every image is a new discovery, each image will give humanity a view of the universe that we’ve never seen before. Hence, the James Webb telescope is one of humanity’s great engineering achievements. People around the world are exhilarated and incredulous about these images.

The world’s most powerful telescope was named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968 during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. JWST was launched in December 2021 on an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana, and arrived at the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point in January 2022.

James Webb can detect objects up to 100 times fainter than Hubble can, Hubble is a Space Telescope which is launched in 1990 on lower Earth orbit. Hubble is still in operation. It was funded and built by United States Space Agency NASA also with contributions from European Space Agency. Hubble Space telescope is referred to as HST or Hubble.

The first 5 Cosmic objects captured via James Webb Telescope

The International Committee and the representatives of Space Telescope Science Institute, NASA, ESA and CSA together have decided the first 5 cosmic objects to be shot by Jame’s Webb Telescope are the following:-

1. Carina Nebula

Nebula is generally defined as any numerous clouds of gas or dust in interstellar space. The nebula is a place for the birth of stars and also a place for potentially explosive stars in the galaxy. There are lakhs and lakhs of Nebulas in the galaxy, Carina Nebula is one among those lies in our galaxy. The nebula is approximately 8,500 light-years from Earth, located in the Carina–Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way galaxy.

2. WASP – 96 b

WASP – 96b is one of the biggest planets, from a different solar system. This planet lies 1120 years light years away from Earth. James Webb Space Telescope confirmed the presence of water, clouds and hazes within the planet’s atmosphere.

3. Southern Ring Nebula

The Southern Ring Nebula is also called NGC 3132, or Caldwell 74. It is located 2,500 light-years away in the constellation of Vela. This planetary nebula has a diameter of about 0.5 light-years. The Southern Ring or “Eight-Burst” nebula is a planetary nebula.

4. Stephan’s Quintet

Stephan’s Quintet is a visual group of five galaxies. It is located 290 million light years away.

5. SMACS 0723 – Massive Galaxy Clusters

This image is said to be the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length, a tiny sliver of the vast universe. This is located 4.6 billion light years away from Earth. This image shows a cluster of galaxies in the Southern Hemisphere constellation.
